Jonny holds a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Developmental Psychopathology. His research experience includes twin studies, molecular genetics, and structural equation modelling. Jonnny is based between the Alzheimer’s Scotland Dementia Research Centre, the Advanced Care Research Centre and the Department of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh and will be studying until 2025.
Jonny research works with a variety of different cohorts; including the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936 (LBC1936) and English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). He recently completed a project which explored polygenic prediction of frailty in LBC1936 and is currently working on polygenic prediction of frailty in ELSA. The majority of Jonny's projects utilise genetic (such as polygenic risk scores) and environmental (such as sleep quality and diet) data to explore ageing outcomes and see how best we can refine the prediction of ageing outcomes. Jonny is also interested in understanding how the public, particularly individuals at the older end of the lifespan, view personalised genomics and the use of genetic data in research - he will be investigating this further in the third year of his PhD.
