
Sahan is a Clinical Research fellow and honorary specialist registrar funded by Alzheimer Society Scotland and is undertaking a PhD in Clinical Brain Sciences. He joined the centre in February 2019. Prior to commencing his PhD, he was working as a specialist registrar ST5 in General Adult Psychiatry based at the Maudsley training scheme in London. Sahan completed his medical training at Imperial College London in 2007 followed by initially pursuing core medical training in the East of England Deanery in 2010. Additionally, Sahan pursued training opportunities in global health when completing a Masters in Global health and Development and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Following these exciting experiences, Sahan commenced a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship based at Brighton and Sussex Medical School where he completed a project looking into the role of bilingualism as a protective factor in dementia.
For his PhD project, Sahan is exploring the relationship between life course measures of socioeconomic status and deprivation and neuroimaging parameters in older adults. Sahan anticipates that he will use the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936 neuroimaging database to analysis this relationship. Sahan anticipates that following completion of his PhD he will pursue a career in Academic Psychiatry.
