Tom trained in medicine and psychiatry in Edinburgh, the Highlands, and London and undertook doctoral training at the University of Edinburgh. He is an intermediate clinical fellow supported at the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre and Centre for Dementia Prevention – both at the University of Edinburgh – and an honorary consultant psychiatrist in NHS Lothian. He is interested in geographical variation in dementia and the environmental risk factors for dementia which might be responsible for this variation.
